A Seville library devoted to the Americas

The Instituto Hispano Cubano de Historia de América, also known as Fundación González Abreu, is a nonprofit educational and cultural foundation established in Seville in 1928 by Rafael González Abreu, Viscount of Los Remedios.

Library and collections

Its library specializes in the history and cultures of the Americas and serves students and researchers. Access to the collections and reading room is free for those who show identification and documentation establishing a research need. Materials cannot be borrowed for use outside the library. Researchers can also consult indexes for volumes I–XVI of the Catálogo de los Fondos Americanos del Archivo de Protocolos de Sevilla.

Publications and exchange

The institute publishes research on the history of the Americas, with particular attention to Cuba. It distributes publications through donations and exchanges with national and international institutions, including archives, libraries, and universities; these exchanges also expand its own collection.

Research prize

The Fundación González-Abreu research prize encourages study of the historical, cultural, economic, and social ties between Spain and the Americas, especially Spain and Cuba. For its fifth call, submissions are due January 15, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Applicants use the designated form and attach the documents required by the competition rules.
