About Fundación Gustavo Bueno
Philosophy in print, online, and in the classroom
Fundación Gustavo Bueno is a cultural institution devoted to philosophy, critical thought, and the dissemination of philosophical materialism. It organizes courses and meetings, publishes academic work, and preserves and digitizes philosophical writing in Spanish.
Publications and digital projects
The foundation publishes El Basilisco, a philosophy journal with a general index of authors and articles. It also maintains Filosofía en español, which includes a digital library of classic and contemporary works and an audio and audiovisual archive. Other resources include a chronological bibliography of Gustavo Bueno and digital editions of writers such as Benito Jerónimo Feijoo and Gómez Pereira.
Courses and gatherings
Its formal programs include a 28-credit university specialization in the Foundations of Philosophy and a 90-credit master’s program in the Philosophy of the Present. The foundation holds philosophy meetings at several locations, including the Encuentros de Filosofía in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, the Escuela de Filosofía de Oviedo, and the Diálogos filosóficos in Madrid. Lectures, papers, and roundtable discussions bring academics and thinkers together.
Other initiatives
The foundation also studies the philosophy of music through specialized courses and a chair dedicated to Gustavo Bueno. It has a museum of philosophy in Spanish and participates in international gatherings, including the Encuentros de Materialismo Filosófico in Mexico. Its Santo Domingo de la Calzada location is Sala Gustavo Bueno, Pinar 47; it also holds activities in Oviedo and Madrid.
