Museo Naval del Barco de la Virgen
A maritime museum inside the Barco de la Virgen, a full-scale vessel linked to the Bajada celebration.
About Museo Naval del Barco de la Virgen
The Museo Naval del Barco de la Virgen tells La Palma’s maritime story from inside a vessel visitors can walk through. The boat on display, associated with the Bajada celebration, was built for the 1940 edition, according to the City Council. It is both the museum’s home and its central exhibit, framing the island’s connections with navigators, merchants, privateers and shipbuilders.
The collection brings together maritime objects, models, documents and interpretive material. Recent Google Maps reviews mention the replica, its objects and written information; some describe a relatively short visit. Visitors interested in maritime history can take their time with the displays and details of the vessel.
The official site lists seasonal hours, prices and an audio guide in Spanish, English and German. However, Maps showed a 6 p.m. closing on Sep 29, 2026, while the official September schedule listed 7 p.m. Because the sources differ, confirm before setting out; last entry is half an hour before close.
The museum is at Alameda Square, and its website suggests nearby historic sites. It also advertises educational visits and workshops for school groups, arranged in advance.
