A community learning center in Sant Cugat

Ateneu Santcugatenc is a nonprofit civic and cultural center in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona. With 70 years of history and 25 years of classes and workshops, it offers ongoing education, cultural activities, and community programs open to the public.

Quarterly classes and workshops

Courses cover languages, arts and creativity, dance, photography, writing and literature, humanities, computers, cooking, wellness, horticulture, and gardening, along with programs for children and teens. Before each term, the center offers trial classes for €3; the fee is credited toward the related course if a student enrolls. Examples in the 2026–27 program include:

  • Power yoga: Tuesdays, 8–9 p.m., September 28–December 22; €104 (€92 for members)
  • Passejant per la història de Barcelona: Thursdays, 5:30–7 p.m., October 15–November 19; €105 (€92 for members)
  • Taller d’introducció a la poesia: Mondays, 7:15–8:45 p.m., October 19–November 30; €98 (€86 for members)
  • La ruta de la seda: Tuesdays, 6:30–8 p.m., September 29–October 20; €57 (€50 for members)

Exhibitions, talks, and performances

The center hosts monthly exhibitions, lectures, roundtables, book presentations, concerts, and literary conversations. Most events are free and open to the public. Activities take place in spaces including Sala d’Actes and Espai de Trobada.

Street markets and social projects

The center is behind two familiar Sant Cugat street markets: Mercat de Pagès, held twice a month in Plaça de Sant Pere and weekly in Mira-Sol, and Mercat de 2a mà, held four times a year on Rambla del Celler. Social projects include Club Social Espai de Lleure for people diagnosed with a mental health condition, a language welcome program for newcomers, study support and mentoring workshops, and Joves Jubilats, which promotes active aging.
