Fundació Marianao

Community support rooted in Sant Boi

Fundació Marianao is a social-services organization based in Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona. It has supported people facing vulnerability since 1978. The foundation began when young people and neighbors in the Marianao neighborhood, responding to a lack of community facilities and social resources, developed local alternatives for children and young people. In 1987, the group became the Casal Infantil i Juvenil de Marianao association. After a 1995 community campaign prevented the Casal building from being demolished, the Fundació Marianao was established as a new legal entity. The city-owned building, which covers more than 1,700 square meters, is leased to the foundation for 50 years.

Areas of work

The foundation organizes its programs in four broad areas:

• Children and families: Espai Familiar, Casal Infantil i Juvenil, summer clubs and camps, and scholarships.
• New Opportunities School: Unitat d'Escolarització Compartida (UEC); introductory vocational programs in office and administrative services and in computer equipment assembly and maintenance; a workshop classroom; and scholarships.
• Social inclusion: job-search services, legal services, Projecte David, and programs in health, addiction services, and mental health.
• Community participation: Vente Pa'Ká, Esfera Jove, Punt Òmnia, Col·lectiu Suma, Horts de Can Pinyol, Marianao Té Cor, and Acción Ciudadana.

Community reach

The foundation reports more than 3,000 participants, 130 volunteers, 60 employees, and more than 35 social projects. Its work focuses on Sant Boi de Llobregat and nearby communities, with the goal of building a more connected and inclusive community.
