About CDIAP Sant Boi

Early childhood development services

CDIAP Sant Boi is a public-network service within the Catalan Social Services System of the Government of Catalonia. Its team specializes in child development and early intervention for developmental conditions in early childhood.

Early intervention serves children ages 0–6 who have concerns, difficulties, or developmental conditions involving physical, emotional, intellectual, and/or sensory development, as well as children at risk of developing them. The service also addresses parents’ questions and concerns about their caregiving roles.

Care process

The service follows a structured five-step process:

  • Intake and review of the referral.
  • Diagnostic assessment.
  • Therapeutic care.
  • Care, guidance, and support for parents.
  • Completion of services.

Therapeutic care is the center’s main activity. The approach begins with listening to a child’s distress and working with the child to find possible solutions. Because many children receiving care have combined needs involving both organic and psychological conditions, more than one professional may be involved. The team consults and coordinates with one another and, when appropriate, with professionals in the health, education, and social service networks.

Approach

The center emphasizes each child’s individual experience, recognizing that conditions with an organic basis also affect the child as a person. It is closely connected to its local community and takes an active part in initiatives for young children. Staff pursue ongoing professional development with outside instructors and supervisors, including reading and discussing texts, presenting cases, and individual and institutional supervision.

When services end

Services end when goals in the therapeutic plan have been met, when a child reaches the age limit, when the child is referred to another specialized service, when the family chooses to stop, or for other reasons such as a change of address. Repeated unexcused absences may also lead to the end of services. The center provides a discharge report describing the child’s needs, interventions, progress, reasons for discharge, recommendations, and any referral to another service.
