Applied technology research in San Sebastián
CIDETEC is a private, nonprofit applied-research organization founded in 1997. It develops and transfers technological knowledge to businesses to strengthen competitiveness and innovation. Its headquarters are at the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park in San Sebastián, with additional facilities at Gipuzkoa’s MUBIL Electromobility Hub.
Two specialized technology centers
- CIDETEC Energy Storage: develops new battery technologies and transfers them to industry.
- CIDETEC Surface Engineering: specializes in surface engineering and anchors an innovation hub focused on these technologies.

Recent projects
Research includes modular batteries for small satellites (ESA RMS project with LANZO Batteries); a new generation of capacitors for space electronics (MetPET); bio-based, recyclable construction composites (BIO-UPTAKE); and safer hydrogen infrastructure (ONTZHi-II). CIDETEC also works on battery circularity in Gipuzkoa.
Networks and facilities
CIDETEC participates in European clusters, platforms, and associations, helping it track technology and policy developments. It operates energy-storage testing and characterization laboratories in Zubieta and equipment at its Printed Electronics Hub.
