Medio Ambiente Camargo is the municipal environmental school operated by Camargo City Council in Cantabria. Established in 1993, it leads environmental education and public-awareness programs, with a particular focus on local preschool, primary, secondary, and high schools. The city’s environmental department dates to 1991.

Programs and Community Work

The school’s work includes recycling and waste-recovery programs, native-tree distribution and community planting, UNESCO Associated Schools coordination in Cantabria, Local Agenda 21, municipal nature reserves, and renewable-energy education. It also supports sustainable food and gardening projects, including municipal gardens, an ecological market, and horticulture and sustainable-cooking classes.

The school organizes children’s activities in the municipal gardens, interpretive walks, family workshops, and public events recognizing local and regional sustainability projects.

Camargo’s listed natural areas include Sierra de Parayas, Charca de Raos, Marisma de Alday, Castañera de Peñas Blancas, Monterón, Paraje del Juyo, Monte Collado, the Bilbao quarry and its holm-oak woodland, Pozón de la Dolores, and Sierra de El Pendo, designated an Area of Special Natural Interest.
