About Auxiliar Conservera, S.A. (AUCOSA)

Fishmeal and fish oil production

Auxiliar Conservera, S.A. (AUCOSA) traces its origins to 1959, when several leading Galician canning companies established it on Avenida de Orillamar in Vigo’s Bouzas neighborhood to serve their members. Today, the company describes itself as one of Spain’s major producers of fishmeal and fish oil.

Company history and operations

  • 1959: Founded in Vigo to support Galicia’s canning industry.
  • 1966: A fishmeal and fish-oil plant began operating, processing byproducts from canned and other processed fish production.
  • 1967: The company expanded into fish storage and freezing, opening a cold-storage facility on Avenida de Orillamar.
  • 1976: Fishmeal and fish-oil production moved from Vigo to Chapela, in Redondela.
  • 1990s: AUCOSA promoted Frigoríficos Oya (Frioya), a cold-storage facility in which it remained a major shareholder until February 2017.
