About Vidàlia

Community life at Colònia Vidal

Vidàlia is an intentional community and housing cooperative established in 2019 in the former Colònia Vidal, a historic textile settlement in Puig-reig, in Barcelona province's Berguedà region. The colony once had as many as 800 residents, along with a church, school, and other facilities beside the Llobregat River.

The project brings together people and families who choose to live together and share resources and responsibilities through a cooperative way of life and common social and political values.

The community

The community includes 20 adults and 6 children from different backgrounds. It also regularly welcomes volunteers for stays of several weeks and long-term volunteers through the European Solidarity Corps.

Housing and governance

  • Collective housing owned and managed jointly by residents.
  • Shared responsibilities and spaces for maintenance, decision-making, and cooperative operations.
  • Horizontal governance inspired by sociocracy, with groups focused on different parts of the project and collective decision-making.
  • Local organic food production and organic farming practices.

Public activities and visits

The community organizes events open to the public, including open workdays, the Festa Major de Cal Vidal, and outings to explore the Llobregat River and medicinal plants. Some events are held with local organizations such as the Ametlla de Merola Residents Association. To visit the community, write in advance and explain your interest in the project.
