Escuela de Música LaClave

What LaClave is

Escuela de Música LaClave is a music school with a physical campus in Puerto de Sagunto, Valencia, and live online instruction. Founded in 1989, it has spent more than three decades teaching recreational and professional musicians. New students can take an initial trial class at no charge.

Courses

The school offers more than 40 courses across several areas:

• Instruments: electric, acoustic and Spanish guitar; contemporary piano; electric bass; drums and percussion; and ukulele.
• Voice and theory: vocal technique, supporting theory and solfège.
• Production and sound: music production, live-event sound, production and sound workshops, ensemble rehearsal, teamwork, and music management and promotion.
• Children's programs: guitar, piano, drums, ukulele, voice and supporting theory.

Instruction ranges from beginner through advanced levels and works across rock, jazz, soul and pop.

Teaching format and facilities

Students can attend in person or join live online lessons with an instructor. Online students receive access to a virtual classroom and recordings of their classes. Renovated in 2017, the campus includes individual and group rooms, a soundproofed percussion, recording and rehearsal room, theory classrooms and two rooms with high-end digital pianos. The rooms are climate-controlled and equipped with computers, internet access and webcams.

Faculty

Music classes are taught by professional musicians with conservatory credentials, while audio workshops are led by instructors trained in sound. The school states that faculty members hold the background-clearance certificate required for work with minors. Founder and director Jose Rubio teaches guitar and sound and has more than 30 years of experience; Ana Serrano manages administration and student services.

Additional activities

LaClave organizes jam sessions and end-of-year performances involving students and faculty. It also supports the local music and cultural association Klavija by providing a headquarters and sponsoring its activities.
