About Best Buddies Spain
Friendship and inclusion
Best Buddies Spain is the country's affiliate of Best Buddies International, a nonprofit founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989 that operates in more than 40 countries. In Spain, it works through Fundación Distintos to help children and young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities build meaningful friendships and feel included.
Programs and activities
The organization focuses on two areas: creating opportunities for friendship through shared experiences and inclusive recreation, and helping schools and businesses build more inclusive environments through training, resources, and programs. Its offerings include School Club, Inclusive Recreation, BB Fun, and One to One, as well as awareness and training workshops, presentations, and the Marcha de la Inclusión (Inclusion Walk).
Transparency and funding
Fundación Distintos undergoes an annual external audit and submits its financial statements to the Protectorate of Foundations at Spain's Ministry of Culture. It publishes annual accounts, audit certificates, and annual reports, including reports for 2023 and 2024. Funding comes from one-time donations and membership dues, which may qualify for tax deductions under Spanish law.
