About Perelada

Wine and cava from Peralada

Perelada is a winery based in Peralada, Girona, where winemaking is documented as far back as the Middle Ages. The company produces wines and cava associated with the Empordà region. Its range includes estate wines, cava, and collections such as Ex Ex, Gran Claustro, Amfitrió, Obsequi, Inspiradors, Només Cigonyes, Jardins, Centenario, and Homenaje.

History and ownership

Wine production at Peralada Castle has been documented since medieval times. Miguel Mateu acquired the historic complex in 1923 and worked to revive its winemaking tradition. The company says on its website that it also owns Bodegas Chivite.

New winery and sustainability

Perelada opened a new winery designed by RCR Arquitectes, the firm that won the 2017 Pritzker Prize. According to the company, it is Europe's first winery with LEED Gold sustainability certification. The company also describes it as the setting for one of Spain's broadest wine-tourism experiences.
