A restored Cantabrian home by the bay

Casa Anjalar is a holiday rental in the center of Pedreña, a coastal town in Cantabria. The semi-detached house once served as a stable and hayloft, and is about 80 years old; it was renovated in 2015. The entire home is rented as one unit and can accommodate up to eight people, including children and babies. Its tourist license number is G-11482.

Layout and amenities

The home is arranged over two floors:

• Ground floor: an open-plan kitchen equipped with an oven, ceramic cooktop, fridge-freezer, microwave, washer, cookware, and small appliances; one bedroom with a 1.35 m (about 4.4 ft) bed; a bathroom with a shower; and a living room with a 42-inch TV (USB, HDMI, and SCART connections). Large windows open onto a 25 m² terrace facing the bay, with views of the sea and Santander. The terrace leads to a garden of about 50 m².
• Upper floor: three bedrooms—one with a 1.35 m (about 4.4 ft) bed and two with two 90 cm (about 3 ft) beds each—and a bathroom with a bathtub.

Wi-Fi and two parking spaces are included. Towels and bed linens (sheets and blankets) are provided. The kitchen also has a moka pot, blender, electric juicer, kettle, and household cleaning products. Bathrooms include a hair dryer, hand soap, and toilet paper; guests staying longer or traveling in larger groups may want to bring extra supplies. Laundry detergent and fabric softener are provided, along with an iron, drying rack, and clothespins. Tourist brochures are available. Terrace furniture is out only in summer and is stored during winter because of the weather.

Getting around and things to do

The house is in the town center, beside a small grocery store that opens daily. A butcher, pharmacy, bank, shops, bars, and restaurants are just a few steps away. Pedreña Beach is 500 m (about 0.3 miles) away, and Somo Beach is 2 km (about 1.2 miles) away. Together with the beaches at Loredo and El Puntal, Somo forms a sandy stretch about 8 km (5 miles) long. The ferry pier is about 500 m away, with crossings to Santander every 30 minutes; the trip takes 15 minutes. The marina is also 500 m away. Golf courses are a two-minute drive, the train station is 10 minutes away, and the airport is 15 minutes away. The area suits families and groups of friends interested in golf or water sports: the town has two golf courses and several centers offering diving, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kayaking. Local restaurants and grills serve seafood—including Pedreña razor clams and clams—as well as grilled meat and fish.
