Confraria de Pescadors de Palamós

Fishing community on the Costa Brava

Confraria de Pescadors de Palamós is a nonprofit public-law organization representing fishermen and fishing activity along the coast from Cape Begur to the mouth of the Ridaura stream on the Costa Brava. It brings together both the business side of the industry—boat owners—and the workers—crew members. Its governing bodies maintain equal representation for both groups and proportional representation for each fishing method.

Activities and services

• Management of the fish market (Llotja) and fish auction; the afternoon auction starts at 4 p.m.
• Palamós fish market.
• The Palamós Shrimp Guarantee Mark, developed with the Palamós City Council since 2007.
• Fira de la Gamba de Palamós, whose 11th edition sold more than 50,000 tickets.
• Quarterly newsletters and weekly statistics.
• Stall rental at the Palamós fish market, with applications submitted to the office by October 31.

Sustainability and quality

The Palamós shrimp fishery is a pioneer in collaborative management of Mediterranean trawl fishing. Its specific fishery management plan is governed by Order AAA/532/2018, dated May 2, for bottom-trawl fishing of red shrimp (Aristeus antennatus) in certain maritime areas near Palamós. The guild also participates in the Medfish project and publishes closed areas and seasonal fishing closures.

Fishing fleet

The guild represents trawlers. On a recent fishing day, 17 boats went out, including Avanza, Bonomar F., Ciriaco, Estrella del Sur III, Gafor, José Ruiz, L'Arjau, Mandorri, Manola, Miguel Bertran, Montse, Morena de Montserrat, Nou Gisbert, Nuevo Siboney, Perla de Palamós, Solraig, and Tia Cinta.
