About Tèxtil Ontinyent
Medical textiles made by Ontinyent companies
Tèxtil Ontinyent is a brand and online platform developed by the Ontinyent City Council and the textile employers' association ATEVAL. It brings together businesses in the Clúster Tèxtil Sanitari d'Ontinyent, formed to redirect local textile production toward medical goods, particularly masks and other technical textiles. The brand certifies that listed products were made by cluster companies in Ontinyent.
Products and services
The website catalogs goods made by cluster members, offering direct access without intermediaries. Its main categories are:
- Masks
- Medical textiles
- Other textile products
Local manufacturers can also apply to be included in the cluster's business directory.
Origin and institutional support
The cluster formed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to secure local supplies of medical materials and reduce reliance on outside providers. The Ontinyent City Council and ATEVAL signed a collaboration agreement, and the Valencian regional government authorized the cluster's formation. Municipal investment was €300,000 for 2020 and 2021, later increased to €360,000 in total since the beginning of the pandemic.
Early figures
At its launch, the cluster included nearly 30 local companies and reported capacity for 15 million masks a month, according to its July 2020 presentation. Its first action was to buy and distribute 40,000 reusable hygienic masks made to the UNE 0065:2020 standard. In September 2021 it distributed 7,000 masks to Ontinyent schools.
