La Iera

A community of makers in Garrotxa

La Iera is an association of artisans and creative professionals in Garrotxa, Girona. It brings makers together to strengthen their work collectively, share knowledge, and raise the profile of their individual and shared projects.

Classes and workshops

The association organizes a regular schedule of creative and educational activities. Its program has included:

• Patternmaking and sewing classes running from September through June (€40)
• A focused handbag-making workshop (€45)
• A creative workshop using aromatic plants (€20)

La Iera also takes part in and organizes fairs, markets, and pop-up events, and works to build partnerships with other associations, organizations, and public agencies.

Membership

Members must have a connection to Garrotxa. Annual dues are €75. Members can join working groups, be featured on the association's website and Instagram, exchange knowledge and experience, and help organize fairs and activities.

How the association works

La Iera uses a sociocratic structure organized into decentralized working circles. The active group meets monthly to plan activities, and general assemblies are held every three months. Additional circles form around specific projects, and members contribute as much as they are able and want to.
