History and International Reach

Álvaro Martinena founded the company in the late 1970s, initially focusing on drive components such as chains, pulleys, and sprockets. Within a few years, it added gearboxes, speed variators, and electric motors, expanding beyond its regional market and building commercial relationships across Spain.

In the early 1990s, Martinena became part of STM, an international gearbox manufacturer. The company says its products are now present on every continent and in more than 60 countries.
