Support and independence in Baix Empordà
Fundació Vimar (Fundació Vilagran Maristany) is a private nonprofit with more than 25 years of work in the Baix Empordà region of Girona province. It aims to improve quality of life and independence for people with intellectual disabilities or social needs associated with mental illness, while supporting their families.
Services

Centers and community presence
The foundation operates several centers and services in the region, including a supported-living service in apartments in Calonge and Sant Antoni. The city government has provided two homes for people with disabilities. The foundation has joined Emporhotel, AIE, as a partner and takes part in Catalonia-wide initiatives, including a citizens' legislative initiative and work in the Parliament of Catalonia.
Reach and activities
The foundation reports supporting 180 people with intellectual disabilities through funding from the 2025 CONVO program of Catalonia's Department of Social Rights. Its work is carried out by professional staff and includes training hours and a volunteer program open to people interested in contributing.
Funding and recognition
The foundation receives support from public agencies and private initiatives. A notable contribution was an €11,095.20 donation from the 2025 Euro Solidari at Festival Cap Roig, organized by Fundació “la Caixa” and Clippers, to adapt and replace furnishings. Vimar has also received grants from Girona Provincial Council and added an adapted van to its transportation resources.
