About Fundació Miranda

Wild horses and ecosystem restoration

Fundació Miranda is a nonprofit that promotes knowledge, understanding, and respect for horses, people, and nature. Its work centers on returning horses to the wild to restore ecosystems and support biodiversity, an approach the foundation describes as pioneering.

Conservation and education programs

The foundation develops scientific and conservation projects, including Projecte Przewalski, Projecte Giska, and Projecte Pottoka. Its work also includes seasonal horse migrations across the region, local engagement, public education, environmental education, school programs, activities for groups at risk of social exclusion, and conservation projects for threatened species carried out with university researchers.

It offers charitable activities, team-building programs, therapeutic sessions, and experiences such as “Passa a Miranda,” “Un dia entre cavalls lliures” (“A day among free-roaming horses”), and “Camí de Marina.” The foundation manages a network of rural estates and seeks additional natural areas where horses can help with conservation through grazing.

Territory and locations

The foundation's horses graze across more than 5,000 hectares in Catalonia. They spend the summer in the Pyrenees and the winter near the sea. The foundation describes the grazing areas as its locations, where activities with people also take place. Named locations include Parc del Cadí Nord, Tiana, and Reserva Natural de Nou Pins.

Partnerships

Fundació Miranda belongs to XCN (Xarxa per a la Conservació de la Natura, or Nature Conservation Network) and works with environmental, social, and educational organizations. It has taken part in the LIFE Connect Ricotí Congress and the Festival of Consciousness.

Ways to support the foundation

People can join as members, sponsor a horse, volunteer, or donate. The foundation also offers team-building activities for companies. Its website has a contact form and newsletter.
