About CCAR – Comissió Catalana d'Ajuda al Refugiat

Asylum rights and refugee support

Comissió Catalana d'Ajuda al Refugiat (CCAR) is a nonprofit that has worked in Catalonia since 2004. It defends the right to asylum and the rights of refugees, stateless people, applicants for international protection, and migrants facing heightened vulnerability. In 2021, it was granted public-benefit association status.

Services for refugees and migrants

Most of its direct work takes place through its people services team, which provides comprehensive assistance from the time people arrive in Catalonia. An interdisciplinary team supports clients as they work toward social inclusion and greater independence, with the goal of helping them participate fully in their communities. Services include:

  • Information and guidance on international protection.
  • Legal advice.
  • Reception and support programs.
  • Employment inclusion programs.

Advocacy and public engagement

Alongside direct support, CCAR works on policy advocacy and public engagement related to migration and asylum. It publishes reports and campaigns, including an annual review of asylum in Catalonia and around the world, and speaks critically about outsourcing migration control and its effects on human rights.

Ways to get involved

Individuals and organizations can support CCAR through volunteering, membership, donations, and its newsletter. Public and private institutions also support its work.
