About Asociación Andaluza de Enólogos

A professional association for Andalusia’s wine sector

The Asociación Andaluza de Enólogos (AAE) is a nonprofit organization that brings together enology professionals in Andalusia. Its bylaws, amended on May 6, 2004, establish a board made up of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and four members, elected at a special assembly.

From a national group to an Andalusian association

The association traces its roots to the National Group of Enologists, founded in July 1965. Regional sections were formed that December, with Andalusia grouped with Extremadura and the Canary Islands. In February 1966, Zone I (Andalusia) was established under president Justo Casas Lucas. Juan Alberto González García was elected president in February 2025.

Regional and international representation

AAE belongs to the Spanish Federation of Associations of Enologists (FEAE), which brings together regional associations with their own governing bodies. Voting representation is weighted by membership: one vote for every 50 members or fraction thereof. With 160 members, Andalusia has four votes. FEAE is also part of the International Union of Enologists (UIAE).

Education and industry events

The association organizes and takes part in professional, educational, and outreach activities. Its website has featured technical sessions, including one on Sherry casks held November 20 at Bodega San Ginés in Jerez de la Frontera, organized by the University of Cádiz and the regulatory council for the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda designations of origin. AAE also holds social gatherings, including its traditional St. Andrew’s Day lunch. In 2025, the event took place at Bodegas Valdespino, part of Grupo Estévez, in Jerez, with sponsorship from local company SECOVISA.
