About Horizonte Animal
A sanctuary first, a visitor experience second
Horizonte Animal is a nonprofit equine sanctuary and rescue center in Navalagamella, in Madrid’s Sierra Oeste. Its work centers on horses, donkeys, and ponies that have been abandoned, mistreated, or inadequately cared for. The organization presents the animals’ welfare as the starting point for every activity: they live in a natural setting, in groups, and visitors meet them through controlled, respectful interaction.
Small groups and time with the animals
The sanctuary offers customized educational experiences with horses and donkeys, as well as workshops and activities for families, couples, and small groups. Depending on the program, visitors may learn about equine behavior, spend time with the animals, or take part in an equestrian activity. Visits are arranged by appointment rather than through a fixed public schedule, allowing the team to limit group size and plan around the animals’ needs.
Horizonte Animal also highlights its work with the Hispano-Bretón horse and says it seeks to promote the breed. The visit is best understood as an encounter with a rescue project and its approach to animal care, not as a conventional riding stable. Ask the sanctuary about the specific activity, accessibility, and transportation before arranging a visit.
