Institut Ramon Muntaner

A network for local research

Institut Ramon Muntaner (IRMU), based in Móra la Nova, Tarragona, supports and promotes local and regional research centers in the Països Catalans. Its office closes for vacation from August 3 through August 24.

Research, publications, and events

The institute connects research centers through several lines of work:

• Grants for research projects and cultural outreach.
• Funding for conferences, study days, itineraries, and gatherings.
• Support for print and digital research publications and periodicals.
• Its own publications, including the journal Plecs d’història local and monographs.
• Congresses, symposia, and study days such as the Congrés de Joves Investigadors en Estudis Locals, Simposi Internacional Focs festius de la Mediterrània, and Jornada d’Etnologia de les Terres de l’Ebre.
• Traveling exhibitions, including Patrimoni oblidat, memòria literària and Construint el territori. Arquitectura tradicional i paisatge a Catalunya.
• Grants and prizes including the Beca Joan Veny, Premi Recerca Jove Ramon Muntaner, Beques Francesc Eiximenis, Beca Terra d’Ateneus, and Premi Ricart i Giralt.

Projects and partnerships

Other initiatives include Recercat, a gathering of young researchers; Espai Despuig; Aprendre, a project linking research centers and education; Encesa de Torres, Talaies i Talaiots de la Mediterrània pels Drets Humans; routes organized by research centers; and an inventory of intangible cultural heritage. The institute also works with the Observatori del Patrimoni Etnològic i Immaterial and the European Heritage Days.

Its research-center directory covers regions of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, the Franja of Aragon, Andorra, and Alghero.
