AJL Ophthalmic is a Spanish company founded in 1992 and based in Álava Technology Park in Miñano, Basque Country. It designs, manufactures, and distributes medical devices in three areas: ophthalmology, cranio-maxillofacial reconstruction, and airway care. The company describes itself as the only Spanish manufacturer of intraocular implants for ophthalmology.

Equipment includes biometers, pachymeters, visual-field analyzers, ultrasound systems, phoropters, lensmeters, intense pulsed light systems, slit lamps, lasers, tables, endothelial microscopes, visual-acuity monitors, OCT systems, ophthalmoscopes, retinal cameras, acuity projectors, refractometers, chairs, stools, tonometers, topographers, cryotherapy units, and refraction units.

Facilities and capabilities

The company has 3,000 square meters of manufacturing facilities equipped for its products and focused on innovation. According to its published information, some production is powered by renewable energy. AJL has domestic and international sales networks supported by distributors in different countries.

Awards and recent activity

A study by the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) and the BBK Foundation named AJL Ophthalmic among 53 Basque companies considered world leaders in their specialties. In 2025, it received third prize in the Sustainable Industrialization, Clean Energy, and Eco-Design Best Practices Awards. The company also organizes professional training, including a “All About Keratoconus” course held at its facility in November 2025.
