Iron Castings for Industrial Applications

Fundiciones Roma is a Spanish company based in Mérida, Badajoz, that manufactures gray- and ductile-iron castings. It has 50 years of industry experience and serves customers in Spain and international markets, carrying out production in-house.

Materials and Grades

The company works with two families of cast iron, in accordance with UNE-EN standards:

• Gray or flake-graphite iron (UNE-EN 1561), in grades EN-GJL-150, EN-GJL-200, EN-GJL-250, and EN-GJL-300.
• Ductile or nodular iron (UNE-EN 1563), in grades EN-GJS-400-15, EN-GJS-400-18, EN-GJS-500-7, EN-GJS-600-3, and EN-GJS-700-2.

In addition to supplying raw castings, the company offers machining, painting, heat treatment, and surface treatment, customizing parts to each customer’s requirements.

Production Process

Work begins in the technical office, where the requested part is evaluated and solutions are developed before manufacturing. Production includes patternmaking, coremaking, molding, melting, and shakeout, followed by shot blasting, grinding, machining, heat treatment, and painting. Quality control applies throughout the process.

Its castings are used in a wide range of industrial applications, including wind power, hydraulics, compressors, speed reducers, machine tools, agricultural machinery, rail, elevators, automotive, and valves.

Quality and Certifications

The company’s quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by Bureau Veritas Quality for the production of raw gray- and ductile-iron castings. Its in-house laboratory has a spectrometer, thermal-analysis equipment, metallography equipment, and a portable hardness tester; mechanical testing is performed with an accredited laboratory. Metrology is also used to verify production and optimize cost and performance.
