Support for families affected by dementia
Associació de Familiars de Malalts d'Alzheimer – AFA Maresme is a nonprofit that brings together families of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias. It serves the Maresme region of Catalonia and is headquartered in Mataró.
Day care and caregiver education
AFA Maresme operates a therapeutic day center and offers training for family caregivers. Workshops address topics such as disability and daily support needs in dementia, fall prevention, and the use of medication. The association also publishes Entrena-Ment, a magazine with cognitive-stimulation exercises, and provides frequently asked questions and audiovisual resources on its website.
Organization and advocacy
The association renewed its board in 2025 and marked its 10th anniversary that year. It joins the Spanish Confederation of Alzheimer's Family Associations (CEAFA) in advocating for equitable access to new therapies. AFA Maresme also receives support from community fundraisers, including a donation raised by Escola Valldemia students through the CUEME project.
