About AEiG Cardenal Lluch
More than seven decades of scouting in Manresa
Agrupament Escolta i Guia Cardenal Lluch is a youth education and outdoor activity organization in Manresa, Barcelona province, affiliated with the Central Catalonia district. Founded in 1951 as scouting reemerged in the city after the Spanish Civil War, it was the first scout group in Manresa and the third in Catalonia. In 1976, it brought together the two branches of Catalan scouting—Minyons Escoltes and Guies de Sant Jordi de Catalunya—to form a coeducational group for boys and girls.
Meeting place and schedule
The group meets on the main floor at 11 Carrer Vallfonollosa in Manresa. It initially rented the space and began the process of buying it in 1998. Public hours and scout activities at the meeting place are Saturdays from 4 to 7 p.m. The group is organized into units and supported by leaders and “aquel·les,” former members who remain involved.
Camps, service, and milestones
- International camps and exchanges: The group’s first camp abroad took place in Scotland in the summer of 1991, with an exchange involving Scottish, Swedish, and Catalan Pioneers and Caravels. The exchange was repeated in 1993, followed by a camp in Sweden in 1995. Today, the Pioneers, Caravels, and Trucs units seek international camps; a few years ago, the Rangers and Girl Guides traveled to Belgium.
- Community projects: Activities have included work with the Red Cross, the Bambylor project in Senegal, the Barika project in Burkina Faso, and clothing and food drives for organizations in Manresa.
- Trail stewardship: The group adopts a trail that its members clean and mark.
- 60th anniversary: Celebrations included activities at the meeting place and a walk with children, families, former scouts, and leaders.
- 70th anniversary: Members and alumni climbed 70 summits, and a documentary traced the group’s history across generations.
- 75th anniversary in 2026: The group presented the website “Història dels agrupaments escolta i guia Cardenal Lluch i del Carme,” featuring more than 700 photographs from its early years onward.
