Local exchange in the Bages region
Ecoxarxa del Bages is a local exchange network that uses its own social currency, called “hours.” It brings together producers, businesses, and social and solidarity economy projects in the Bages region of Catalonia. Participants can pay for purchases in “hours” using an identification card linked to their account.
Activities and projects
The network organizes regular markets called Mercat de l'Estraperlo, featuring local producers and artisans, workshops, and community activities. It also holds monthly assemblies to make decisions about how the network operates and to encourage the use of its social currency. Projects in the network include organic food, artisan bread, natural cosmetics, and cooperative textile workshops.
