Ethical banking in the Bages region

Fiare Manresa is a local group—GIT Catalunya Central—within Fiare, an ethical and cooperative banking project. It promotes this alternative banking model in the Bages region and other parts of Catalonia. It is not a traditional bank branch; it is a group of members and supporters that organizes activities to explain ethical banking and encourage responsible consumption and the solidarity economy.

Events and collaborations

The group has organized presentations, talks, and campaigns with social, educational, and cultural organizations. Documented events include:

• A December 2014 launch of the “Nadal seria si Nadal fos...” campaign, encouraging thoughtful, transformative holiday spending with Bages social-economy organizations.
• A discussion after a screening of the documentary Confessions d'un banquer at CineClub Manresa in December 2014, as part of the conscious-consumption campaign.
• Participation in the September 2014 presentation of “TreballemB,” the Bages cooperative network, at the Ecoviure fair.
• A May 2014 Fiare presentation at Escola Diocesana in Navàs, attended by about 30 people.
• A presentation at Institut de Puig-reig during its economics sessions in May 2014.
• A February 2014 presentation in Calders attended by around 15 residents.
• The November 2013 talk “Alternatives Socials a la Banca Especulativa” in Manresa, organized by Espai Roig del Bages.
• Participation in Fiare's national assembly in Barcelona in March 2014, with more than 300 attendees.
