About Complejo Arqueológico Humo
Prehistoric sites in La Araña
Complejo Arqueológico Humo is a group of prehistoric archaeological sites in La Araña, on Málaga Bay in southern Spain. It forms part of the La Araña karst complex, one of the most significant concentrations of Upper Pleistocene sites on the Andalusian coast. The area includes Cueva del Humo and Shelters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10, among others, with occupations ranging from the Middle Paleolithic (Mousterian) through the Neolithic and Chalcolithic.
Research and preservation
The complex is the subject of ongoing archaeological research. Excavation campaigns have taken place at Shelter 3, alongside work to protect and stabilize exposed profiles. Researchers study lithic tools, paleofauna, mollusks, and the area's ancient environment. The project aims to create an archaeological park that brings together preservation, research, and public education.
Arranging a visit
The organization offers visits to the site by arrangement. It shares news and activity updates through its social media channels.
