Opodo

Opodo, online travel agency to compare and book flights, hotels and cars

Opodo is an online travel agency that operates through its website and mobile app. Its business focuses on comparing and booking flights, accommodation and car rentals, as well as flight + hotel packages and shuttle and transfer services. The platform presents itself as a price comparison tool that lets you search for low-cost deals and city breaks.

Booking services

The website lets you book flights, hotels, flight and hotel combinations, car rentals and shuttle and transfer services. Among the advantages it advertises are car rental with free cancellation and a best price guarantee that, according to the company, pays double the difference if a lower fare is found. The catalog shows discounts of up to €270 on accommodation with the Prime program and savings of up to hundreds of euros per year on flights.

Comparison coverage

The company states that it compares more than 2,000,000 accommodation options, more than 900 car rental companies and more than 600 airlines. This breadth of choice is one of the arguments it uses to differentiate itself in the online travel agency sector.

Mobile app and features

Opodo has a free mobile app with features designed specifically for travelers. These include automatic check-in, which manages boarding passes as they become available and emails them; real-time alerts about flight times, boarding gate and baggage reclaim belt; a hand luggage scanner that lets you check with your phone whether your bag meets the airline's requirements; live tracking of any flight worldwide; and promo codes exclusive to bookings made through the app.

Destinations and editorial content

The platform includes a section called Compass by Opodo, which features inspiring destinations reachable from different departure points. The site also offers links to airline reviews and to flight pages for destinations such as London, New York, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Romania, Germany, Greece, Belgium and Spain, among others.

Industry recognition

The company displays several travel industry awards: best international expansion 2014 (EMOTA), best e-commerce site 2013 (E-Commerce Awards España) and best international web page 2012 (European Business Awards).
