About Corral de la Morería
Corral de la Morería, flamenco tablao and restaurant in Madrid
Corral de la Morería is a flamenco tablao located in Madrid that opened its doors in 1956. Its proposal combines the artistic programming of flamenco with a gastronomic offer spread in two spaces, one of them with a Michelin star. The company is presented as the only flamenco tablao in the world with restaurant dining at that level and as the oldest and most famous of its category.
Flamenco every night
The tablao offers shows every night, from Monday to Sunday, with a format designed both for knowledgeable aficionados and for those who come for the first time to this art. Each function gathers leading figures in dance, singing and guitar. The programming is completely renewed every week, so that the stage can present leading contemporary flamenco artists—performers also seen in major international theatres—in the close quarters of a tablao.
Among the artists who have performed in the house are Antonio Gades, La Chunga, Fosforito, María Albaicín, Lucero Tena, Serranito, Fernanda and Bernarda de Utrera, Manuela Vargas, El Güito, Mario Maya, La Paquera de Jerez, Lola Greco, Javier Barón, Diego el Cigala, José Mercé and Antonio Canales, among many others. Names such as Belén López, Juan Andrés Maya, Ángel Rojas, Marco Flores, Olga Pericet, Eduardo Guerrero, El Junco, Alfonso Losa, Alba Heredia, Lucía la Piñona, Rosario Toledo, Jesús Fernández, Mercedes Ruiz, La Lupi, Jesús Carmona, María Moreno or Manuel Liñán have appeared in its contemporary program.
Artistic direction and choreographic creation
The artistic direction corresponds to Blanca del Rey, owner and director of the tablao, dancer and choreographer, recognized with the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts. The company emphasizes that it is the only flamenco tablao whose owner and artistic director is one of the most important figures in the history of flamenco.
In addition to regular programming, Corral de la Morería serves as a center for production and choreographic creation: it develops shows with current flamenco artists and serves as a space for its world premieres.
Milestones and recognitions
The venue is included in the travel book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, which places it in number 1 of the New York Times list dedicated to the most emblematic places on the planet. It has received the recognition as “Best Flamenco Tablao in the World” of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas de La Unión and the City of Madrid Award of the city council of the capital, shared with the Prado Museum, Thyssen and Reina Sofía.
On its stage there have been notable episodes of flamenco history, such as the presentation of "Entre dos aguas" by Paco de Lucía, Isabel Pantoja's professional debut and takeoff, Sabicas' visits to Spain or the creation of the Blanca del Rey’s Soleá del Mantón.
Two dining spaces
The tablao has two gastronomic spaces where it presents its proposals. The offer allows to combine the show with dinner or drinks, according to the type of entrance. When the dinner reservation overlaps with the second performance of the show (21:10 dinner and 21:30 show), guests receive preferred seating with a table at the front, without dinner service, for safety and comfort.
Entry and access conditions
Ticket sales are made through the website, selecting date, type of entry and number of people. For larger ticket purchases, the company indicates that it must be requested by email. Children under the age of 7 are not allowed. The site warns when there are few seats left for a show.
