About CEIFE - Centro Español de Investigación Farmacoepidemiológica

About CEIFE

The Spanish Center for Pharmacoepidemiological Research (CEIFE) is a research unit established in Madrid in 1994. It conducts epidemiological studies on the safety and effectiveness of medicines, using automated medical databases.

Data sources and methods

The center works primarily with four medical databases: the Clinical Practice Research Datalink and The Health Improvement Network in the United Kingdom; the BIFAP database in Madrid; and the Saskatchewan database in Canada. It also collaborates with other data sources for research, including databases in Denmark, Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy, and Audifarma in Colombia.

Collaborations

CEIFE works with the pharmaceutical industry, health authorities, and universities in Spain and abroad. It is an associated center of ENCePP, a scientific network coordinated by the European Medicines Agency, and registers its studies in the ENCePP E-Register of Studies, a public registry for pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance studies.

Team

The center’s staff includes five epidemiologists and one information systems analyst:

  • Luis Alberto García Rodríguez, director
  • Ana Ruigómez Sánchez
  • T. Lucía Cea Soriano
  • Antonio González Pérez
  • Mª Eugenia Sáez Goñi
  • Oscar Fernández Cantero

Other researchers and graduate students also contribute to selected projects for varying periods.
