Clinical and community pharmacy in Spain

SEFAC, the Spanish Society of Clinical, Family, and Community Pharmacy, is a scientific and professional organization for community pharmacists. It focuses on continuing education, research, and technical publications supporting patient-care practice in pharmacies.

Programs and professional resources

• Continuing education for community pharmacists, with online courses on topics such as artificial intelligence in pharmacy, wound and burn care, smoking cessation, and pharmacist recommendations for collagen.
• Research in pharmaceutical care, including active projects, awards, and grants such as the Francisco Martínez Romero award for doctoral research and the STADA-SEFAC research grant.
• Professional publications and practice guides, including smoking-cessation support in community pharmacies; pharmacist-recommendation protocols and referral criteria for minor symptoms; and guides on chronic constipation, erectile dysfunction, dry eye, and rhinitis.
• Scientific meetings and events, including the SEFAC Congress, whose 2026 edition took place in May.
• Documents and resources for both health professionals and patients.

Guides and publications

Its resources include community-pharmacy practice guides on wound care, erectile dysfunction, dry eye, rhinitis, and chronic constipation, as well as its 2025 pharmacist-recommendation and physician-referral protocols for minor symptoms. SEFAC also operates an online store and an audiovisual section with educational videos.

Partnerships

SEFAC works with partner organizations and maintains cooperation agreements. One example is a consensus with SEMERGEN to promote evidence-based, appropriate use of probiotics.
