Fair Trade and responsible consumption

Fundación COPADE — Comercio para el Desarrollo is a private, nonpolitical, nonprofit organization founded in 1998 by Javier Fernández and the Colegio Claret Madrid Alumni Association. It promotes Fair Trade, responsible consumption, and environmental preservation through public-private partnerships.

Areas of work

• International development: Training and guidance for entering new markets, preparing cooperatives and artisans to sell through international Fair Trade channels, and managing direct imports from Latin America.
• Sales and distribution: Fair Trade, gourmet, healthy, organic, and solidarity-economy products sold through its locations in Spain and Ecuador and through distributors in Spain. COPADE also sells products from Honduras and Peru, along with tropical wood certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Madera Justa.
• Certification: Certification programs that include Madera Justa, social-footprint measurement, and contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
• Public awareness: European outreach on Fair Trade and responsible consumption.

Producer partnerships and reach

COPADE works with producer groups in Europe and Latin America and with vulnerable communities in Spain affected by depopulation. It has international offices in Spain and Ecuador.

Certifications and related businesses

The foundation offers ESG-footprint and Madera Justa® certifications and sells wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), license code FSC® C114011. It also participates in companies such as Arte Latino SLU and WoodLife Global Impact, which import, distribute, and sell socially responsible products.
