Social and educational support in Madrid

Asociación Ciudad Joven is a Madrid-based social organization focused on educational support for children, adolescents, and families experiencing social exclusion. Its work combines formal learning programs with emotional and community-based support.

Educational programs

The association operates an Educational Support Classroom (ACE) and Specialized Groups (GES) for students who need adapted learning pathways. Programs include:

• ACE carpentry
• ACE motorcycle mechanics
• GES electrical work
• GES hair and beauty

These programs use a quality-management system based on version 5 of the NGO Quality standard.

Mental health and emotional well-being

Ciudad Joven runs prevention groups and discussion spaces about mental health for young people. Its initiatives include “Safe Space: Let's Talk About Mental Health,” which aims to inform and equip teenagers ages 12 to 16, as well as ongoing work on self-esteem, resilience, social skills, and responsible technology use. These efforts are intended to reduce mental-health stigma and help young people find support resources in the Community of Madrid.

Funding and recognition

The organization has received support from government agencies and other organizations. It received funding through the Kit Espacios de Datos program, part of Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU program, to join the Social Data Driven Impact data space. Its mental-health projects receive funding from the Directorate General for Youth of the regional Department of Family, Youth, and Social Affairs. Its educational-support project for children, teens, and families experiencing social exclusion was selected for Fundación “la Caixa”'s 2025 Social Calls.
