Spain's National Mint and Stamp Factory

The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre–Real Casa de la Moneda (FNMT-RCM) is a Spanish institution established in 1893 through the merger of two long-standing organizations: the Mint and the Stamp Factory. Since 1861, both had occupied the Colón building while maintaining separate administrations. The institution has since expanded its work around a common focus: security.

Products

  • Coins: circulating coins for Spain's Treasury and other countries, €2 commemorative issues, silver and gold collector coins, and medals.
  • Security paper: paper for passports, banknotes, and other documents.
  • Identity documents: electronic passports, national identity cards, driver's licenses, residence permits, and digital tachograph cards.
  • Cards: smart cards, prepaid and loyalty cards, and electronic-signature cards.
  • Security printing: high- and medium-security graphic products, philatelic products, healthcare-sector materials, lottery products, tax stamps, security labels, and other documents.

  • Digital certification through CERES, including electronic certificates and video identity verification.
  • Digital services: digitization, analysis, design, and implementation of customized services.
  • Integrated security and identity-document consulting.
  • Laboratory studies of metals and testing of paper and other substrates.
  • Prepress, custom medals, and event-room rentals.

Innovation

The institution develops engineering and research projects in the Internet of Things, smart cities, and smart grids and works with other organizations on initiatives such as Redysign. It has patents and projects of its own, including PHENOmenon and Charisma.

For Collectors

The FNMT-RCM offers a collector's guide, information about upcoming issues, and a catalog of collector coins and medals, with an online store and a museum shop.

Other Activities

The FNMT-RCM operates the Casa de la Moneda Museum, the School of Engraving, its electronic headquarters, and the SIAEN system. It also publishes public-sector job openings and contracting information.
