Madrid’s professional association for architects

The Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM) is a public-law professional corporation representing architects in the Community of Madrid. Its governance includes a Board of Directors, a Representative Assembly, and other collegiate bodies. The institution regulates the professional practice of architecture and represents its members’ interests.

Services for members

COAM provides a broad range of member services:

  • Advisory services: technical, legal, employment, and tax advice.
  • Employment: national and international job boards, public-sector openings, and job listings.
  • Training: continuing education, civil-service exam preparation, and member access.
  • Social benefits: social-security and welfare services for architects.
  • Insurance: COAM insurance products and member benefits.
  • Certificates: electronic signatures, PC COAM, and other certificates.
  • Competitions: architecture calls and competitions.
  • Business services: space rentals and company promotion.

Architecture, culture, and publications

Through its foundation, COAM runs cultural programs, manages a library and historical service, and publishes Arquitectura magazine, with 778 issues and more than 10,900 articles available. It also maintains a guide to Madrid architecture with building profiles and hosts exhibitions, podcasts, and events such as the Docomomo Ibérico Congress.

Building rehabilitation and sustainability

The association operates a Rehabilitation Office and SIREM, Madrid’s building rehabilitation information service, launched by the city government in partnership with COAM. MATCOAM provides a platform for construction materials. COAM also promotes sustainable architecture and urban planning.

Workspaces and collaboration

COAM offers coworking space for member architects and pre-member students, as well as IA Lab COAM, a space to discuss and explore artificial intelligence’s impact on architecture. It also manages venues for events and activities.

International practice

The association supports architects working abroad with an international job board, country guides, local correspondents, professional-recognition information, and an international observatory.
