About Ab Urbe Condita
Roman daily life, carefully reconstructed
Founded in Madrid in 2016, Ab Urbe Condita is a nonprofit cultural association devoted to Roman historical reenactment. Its work spans the first through fifth centuries CE, with particular attention to everyday life, religion, and the customs of ordinary people and soldiers in the Roman legions.
Research behind the reenactments
Historians and archaeologists among the members oversee the group’s reconstructions. Weapons, tools, clothing, and other objects are sourced from craftspeople who specialize in historical replicas or made by members themselves, drawing on archaeological finds and primary sources. Scenes may include Roman army formations, citizens and priests, and settings such as a military camp, tavern, or brothel.
