About Madera Urbana (Tecmasa)

Wood recovery and recycling

Madera Urbana is the brand used by Tecmasa, a company specializing in wood-waste recovery and part of the multinational Sonae Arauco group. Its work includes collecting, sorting, and processing discarded wood for recycling or energy recovery.

Services and process

Wood delivered to the company’s facilities goes through a technology-controlled recovery process that includes transportation, storage, sorting, cleaning, and volume reduction. The recovered wood is then sent for recycling or energy recovery.

Madera Urbana operates its own wood collection and recovery facilities. It also has agreements with most municipal recycling centers so that wood discarded by residents can be recycled at its processing plants. Municipal collection services and other businesses in the wood industry also bring wood waste from their customers to recovery facilities.

Projects and recent activity

  • The company manages wood waste for the City of Alcorcón after winning a contract issued by Esmasa, Alcorcón’s municipal cleaning services company.
  • It opened a wood recycling center in Alcazarén, Valladolid, about 35 kilometers from the provincial capital.
  • It upgraded its forestry equipment through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) program for sustainable forest management, administered through the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Climate Action, Food, and Rural Agenda.
