McCain has served Spain's restaurant and food-service sector for more than 30 years and entered the retail market—hypermarkets and supermarkets—in 2002. Products sold in Spain are made in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands using potatoes grown and selected in northern Europe.

Global operations
McCain is a leading global producer of French fries and other potato specialties. The company says that one in every four fries sold worldwide is a McCain product. It operates in six continents and 160 countries and employs more than 20,000 people. Its products are sold in supermarkets and restaurants.
McCain's European administrative and commercial headquarters are in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, northern France. The company has eight factories in Europe, located in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland, and works with more than 1,600 farming partners.
History
The company was founded in 1957 by the McCain brothers, who opened a frozen-potato factory in their hometown of Florenceville, Canada. McCain remains a family-owned company. It expanded across the Atlantic in 1965 and opened its first frozen-fry factory in Scarborough, England, in 1968. It acquired its first factory in the Netherlands, in Lewedorp, in 1973, followed by another in Lelystad in 1991. McCain established operations in France in Harnes, Pas-de-Calais, in 1981. In 2001, it opened its Matougues factory in the Grand Est region, which the company describes as the world's largest French-fry production line.
