Mesón El Monasterio

A restored Tenerife estate with Canarian dining, house-made desserts, gardens, and a viewpoint café overlooking the Orotava Valley.

About Mesón El Monasterio

Dining above Tenerife’s Orotava Valley

On La Montañeta in Los Realejos, Mesón El Monasterio makes its historic setting part of the meal. The complex occupies an estate whose story reaches back to the late 18th century and is tied to Dominican friar Fray Antonio el Gomero. After serving as a residence and later as a restaurant, the property was acquired in 1990 and reopened following three years of restoration. Gardens, terraces, and old estate buildings give the visit the feel of a destination rather than a quick stop.

Today, the main restaurant, El Mesón, brings together Canarian and Spanish cooking, tapas, and house-made cakes and pastries. El Mirador takes a different angle: brunch, coffee, and afternoon snacks come with broad views across the Orotava Valley and the Atlantic. Hacienda San Pedro and La Cabaña are temporarily closed for renovations, so visitors should not plan on their seafood or fondue menus at this time.
