International cooperation and local action

Fundació Lleida Solidària (FLS) is a nonprofit established in 1995 at the initiative of Col·legi d'Aparelladors, Arquitectes Tècnics i Enginyers d'Edificació de Lleida, the professional association for building engineers in Lleida. It operates independently and describes itself as the NGO of Lleida's Technical Architecture Association.

Areas of work

• International development: projects in Burkina Faso, Senegal, the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria, and Potosí, Bolivia, among other locations.
• Education for Social Transformation: workshops and educational materials about building with compressed-earth blocks for children and adults.
• Local projects: support and guidance for third-sector organizations in Lleida and surrounding counties.

Selected projects

Projects include improving women's sexual and reproductive health in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (2023–24); strengthening the independence of young women with hearing disabilities in Boulmiougou, Burkina Faso (2024–25); building a cooperative agricultural warehouse in Podor, Senegal (2020); and providing equipment to the Training Medical Centre (TMC) in Ouagadougou. The foundation also helped rebuild infrastructure in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf after the 2014 floods.

Gender equity

FLS gives particular attention to Sustainable Development Goal 5, Gender Equality, and incorporates a human-rights-based gender approach into its projects. Its work includes training, technical support, and local entrepreneurship initiatives to advance women's empowerment.

Partners

International partners include Front Polisari, Dental Ngalanka, Fondacija Lokalne Demokratije, and Sosfed. In Lleida and the surrounding area, the foundation works with organizations including Antisida Lleida, AREMI, Banc dels Aliments, Down Lleida, Associació Senegalesa de Lleida i Comarques, Sahara Ponent, and Centre d'Iniciatives Solidàries Ángel Olaran.
