About AFALL - Associació de Familiars de Malalts d'Alzheimer i altres demències de Lleida

Support for people with dementia and their families

AFALL is a Lleida nonprofit that supports people with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia and their families. It became a separate legal entity in 1997 and is based at 3 Carrer de Cristòfol de Boleda, ground floor, 25006 Lleida.

Services and activities

The association organizes cognitive-stimulation groups for people with Alzheimer's and other dementias. Each participant receives an individual initial assessment and takes part in activities adapted to the stage of the disease. Groups meet in the morning or afternoon and work on:

  • Group activities that encourage communication and social connection.
  • Orientation to time and place.
  • Cognitive stimulation with adapted materials and technology, including touchscreen computers.
  • Arts and crafts to encourage creativity and fine motor skills.
  • Music therapy and reminiscence therapy.
  • Special activities, including workshops, outings, and themed celebrations.

The “Ningú sol” (“No One Alone”) project provides afternoon phone support for families and caregivers. Mutual Aid Groups meet on the first Thursday of each month, facilitated by the center's psychologist.

Professional team

The multidisciplinary team includes coordination and administrative staff, neuropsychology, psychology, social education, social work, geriatric-care aides, and a specialist in music and art therapy. The board is chaired by Montserrat Guiu.

Training, volunteering, and public education

AFALL gives talks at schools, trains family members and caregivers, and publishes articles in the newspaper La Mañana. Its volunteer program is open to family members, caregivers, and students in Lleida and the surrounding area. For World Alzheimer's Day, the association organizes events in the city and partners with Postureig de Lleida to sell charitable products.

AFALL follows the CEAFA Code of Ethics and publishes annual activity reports for 2020–23. It is funded by donations, which can be made by bank transfer to account ES77 2100 0733 73 0200185394 or through Bizum code 08082.
