About the platform
The Virtual Classroom of La Carlota City Council is a digital learning environment managed by the city through its Training Department. Hosted at lacarlotaaulavirtual.es, it offers online courses, some with in-person practice sessions, using Moodle as its learning management system.
Course offerings
The available courses focus mainly on emergency response, workplace safety, and first aid. Published course titles include:
- Communication in workplace relationships, second edition: 40 hours, four modules, and assessment quizzes.
- Preventing psychosocial risks at work, covering risk factors, effects, and prevention tools.
- First aid and CPR, with theory and an in-person practice session led by a liaison nurse from La Carlota Health Center.
- Fire protection systems in public buildings.
- Basic life support and collaboration with medical teams.
- Basic wildland and wildland-urban interface firefighting: 30 hours, including 25 online and five in-person practice hours, for Civil Protection volunteers and firefighters.
- Self-contained breathing apparatus in emergencies: 50 hours, including 40 online and 10 in-person practice hours, for Civil Protection volunteers and firefighters.
- Fire suppression: 30 hours, including 20 online and 10 in-person practice hours, for Civil Protection volunteers.
- Emergency orientation and basic map reading: 20 hours of theory and practice.
- Searching for missing people in large areas: 25 hours, including 20 online and five in-person hours, for Civil Protection volunteers and firefighters.
- Rescue in rivers, flash floods, and flooding: 30 hours, including 25 theory and five practice hours.
Format and prerequisites
Most courses combine online theory through Moodle with in-person practice at municipal facilities, such as the La Carlota Civil Protection training room. Applicants for courses aimed at Civil Protection volunteers and firefighters must first complete Andalusia’s Basic Training Course for Civil Protection Volunteers. Applications are reviewed in the order received, and enrollment is limited to 15–30 participants, depending on the course.
Instructors
Emergency-response courses are taught by firefighter-drivers, including Antonio Jesús Heis Pineda, José Antonio Pérez Rivera, and Francisco Antonio Rodríguez Velasco.
