Online English immersion for teens

Virtual Summer Camp is an online English summer camp for young people ages 12–17 who have not been able to travel abroad for a language-immersion experience. The program is entirely online and combines interactive live-streamed lessons with activities and conversations with Irish families. The company says it has more than 30 years of experience teaching English.

Dates, length, and schedule

• Dates: June 22–August 28, with enrollment by the week.
• Length: Monday–Friday, 15.5 hours per week (12.5 hours of class plus 3 hours of conversation with an Irish family).
• Class time: 9:30 a.m.–noon.
• Conversation with the Irish family takes place in the afternoon, for 3 hours per week, with the option to add more time.
• Additional activities can be added.

Teaching approach and program details

Classes are interactive and held live on Zoom. Groups are small, separated by level, and include students of different nationalities. Project work and role-playing are used to build confidence and fluency in English. Each group also has an Irish “captain” who supports the teacher throughout camp. Irish students participate in every class.

Before the program starts, each student has a one-on-one video interview and placement test. Every student is paired with an Irish family consisting of one adult and one minor, with weekly conversations to practice in a family setting. The company sends weekly feedback and reports, along with the class materials, on the Sunday before camp begins. There is no homework.

Optional activities

Students can choose additional activities based on their interests, including escape rooms, quizzes, a talent show, and virtual field trips, among others.

Technical requirements

Participants need an internet connection, a computer or tablet with a webcam, and headphones. The class access link is sent on the Sunday before camp begins.
