About IINS - International Institute of Sports Excellence and Certifications

About IINS

The International Institute of Sports Excellence and Certifications (IINS) works on sports certification, quality assessments and educational and recognition programs for athletes, clubs and federations. Its programs include Sports Grades, Sports Quality, El Deporte Educa+, Sports Diplomacy and the Sport Spirit community.

Programs and services

  • Sports Grades: A system for certifying athletes' sports levels. IINS describes it as the first official sports-certification system of Spanish sports federations. It is aimed at federated and nonfederated athletes, students, recreational participants, DAN and DAR athletes, and professionals.
  • Sports Quality: A quality seal offered by IINS and the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) for clubs, schools, institutes, colleges, associations, businesses, high-performance centers, sponsors, brands, municipalities, destinations and other public and private organizations.
  • El Deporte Educa+: A school program designed to bring sports, values and fun into the classroom.
  • Sports Diplomacy: A program focused on institutional outreach, international positioning and partnerships in sports.
  • Sport Spirit: A community and official merchandise store whose proceeds, according to IINS, support sports initiatives, scholarships and projects.
  • IINS app: A digital app for certification, tracking athletic progress and history, finding certified clubs and facilities, viewing sport-specific rankings and joining an international sports community.

History

The project traces its origins to 2002, when the Sports Evolution Grades Program began in gymnastics in Cantabria. In 2008, the Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation implemented the system nationally. After the 2012 London Olympics, the Spanish Olympic Committee recommended expanding the model across Spanish sports, leading to a multisport and international approach. The program was presented at the Spanish Olympic Committee in 2014 as the first official sports certification standard, according to IINS. The organization marks more than a decade of activity from 2015 to 2025 and says it has certified more than 20,000 athletes and worked with federations and other organizations.

Reach and presence

IINS describes itself as a global reference in sports certification, quality and innovation, with international reach and the ability to certify athletes and organizations worldwide. Its main operating base is in Spain.
