About Emmaus Courses Spain

What Emmaus Courses Spain is

Emmaus Courses Spain is a Bible correspondence school offering a free program of 60 courses. Printed material is mailed to the student's home and completed at an individual pace, with a personal tutor who marks exams and answers questions.

Course program

The curriculum is divided into five cycles and combines studies of individual books of the Bible with courses in biblical doctrine. Each lesson ends with a multiple-choice exam returned by mail; the tutor sends back the corrected paper with the next course. The school prints its own material to control costs and keep participation free.

Students and reach

The courses are open to anyone interested in studying the Bible, and the method is also used by small groups and people in prison. The organization reports serving about 400 students a year and distributing roughly 300 courses a month. It describes an international history of more than 75 years and four branches in Spain.

History and team

Emmaus courses arrived in Spain during the 1960s. The current team, which reports about 20 years of service, has expanded the curriculum and recruited additional volunteer tutors. G. Vargas leads the work in Spain, while J. Gutiérrez, F. Perea and T. Urraca oversee the central, southern and northern offices.

The postal format gives the program an unusual rhythm: each completed exam opens the next lesson and creates an ongoing exchange between student and tutor.
