What the course is

Curso de Asistente Clínico Veterinario is a classroom-based program leading to training as an Asistente Técnico Veterinario (ATV), broadly equivalent to a veterinary care assistant in Spain. It is certified by the Asociación Empresarial de Veterinaria Española (AEVE), and its curriculum refers to Royal Decree 705/2017 on assistance with clinical care in veterinary centers.

Course format

  • 300 hours in total: 234 practical and 66 theory hours.
  • Teaching by practising veterinarians.
  • Theory and practical work delivered in operating veterinary clinics.
  • Small groups.
  • Financing advertised over three to 36 months.
  • Access after completion to Grupo Valdelvira's employment pool, which the provider says covers more than 350 centers in Spain.

Curriculum

The program has four modules:

  • Module 1: client service and clinic administration, including records, appointments, stock and payments.
  • Module 2: veterinary consultations, including anatomy and physiology, first aid, microbiology, animal handling and care, oncology, immunology, pharmacology and alternative therapies.
  • Module 3: laboratory testing and diagnosis, including sample collection, biochemistry and haematology.
  • Module 4: general surgery and theatre work, including preparing the surgical area and assisting with anaesthesia.
